SYLHET ::The government has taken steps to widen Dhaka-Sylhet highway as its next four-lane project to facilitate traffic movement which is likely to increase in near future.
A treaty has been signed between China Harbour Engineering Company Limited and Roads and Highway Division of Bangladesh on Sunday in Dhaka where representatives and officials of both the Parties were present.
Travelling duration will be reduced to half as vehicles will ply one way from Dhaka-Sylhet and on the other way (lane) from Sylhet to Dhaka simultaneously as vehicles will not need passing each other.
This project will cost Tk. 17,000 Crore. The implementation of project will start in 2017 and complete by 2018.
At long last Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her electoral pledge declared Dhaka-Sylhet Highway will be 4-lane, in a mammoth public meeting held in Sylhet in 2009. Although a little bit delayed, the ambitious project is going to be materialized soon.
